PHOSPHIX® is a combination of Moving Bed Ion Exchange (MBIX) with chemical precipitation that removes phosphate to less than 0.1 ppm and recovers a solid phosphorus product.

PHOSPHIX® for Phosphate Removal

PHOSPHIX® is a combination of Moving Bed Ion Exchange (MBIX) and chemical precipitation. This phosphate technology involves the ion exchange process selectively removing phosphate from the water. Phosphate is precipitated into a solid phosphorus product with low solubility, suitable for recycling.

Precipitating the phosphate from the brine allows it to be recycled in the brine loop and used again to regenerate the ion exchange resin. This greatly minimises chemical consumption, waste production, has a smaller footprint, and has roughly half the operating cost when compared to commonly used precipitation systems. Using PHOSPHIX®, total phosphate effluent concentrations below 0.1 ppm can consistently be achieved.

Applications

Why remove phosphorus from wastewater?

Excess phosphorus discharged into waterways can contribute to eutrophication, driving excessive algae growth and degrading aquatic ecosystems. As discharge limits tighten, industrial and municipal wastewater operators need effective ways to reduce phosphorus concentrations before treated water is released to the environment.

PHOSPHIX® can be used for feeds up to 100 mg/L phosphate and produces water with a phosphate concentration below 0.1 mg/L. The solid phosphorus product produced can be reused in a range of industries, including fertiliser production.

Mining Water & Industrial Water – phosphate removal from process water, wastewater and brines enabling reuse or safe discharge
